| Two people encounter a mysterious figure in the field |
I went to the dance with my girlfriend, and we had a terrific time, staying up late. We continued on after the dance ended and everyone had been sent away by the dance and school personnel. Since the novelty of being on our own with the automobile would not wear off for several more months, we drove about seeking somewhere to go.
I chose the previous elementary school we had attended as kids. We felt comfortable because we were quite near our home, and the only thing we had to worry about was the approaching clouds of rain. After parking in the lot behind the school, we entered the play area and the large grassy field beyond it. One enormous stadium-style floodlight illuminated the pitch, casting a dimmer circle of light over the surrounding playground and playing field.
I talked with her for a very long time while we sat on the swings. A chilly mist that was rather lovely began to sprinkle. But after an hour or two, there had been enough rain to cause the ground beneath us to get muddy, so we took care to keep our feet out of the muck (this will become crucial in a moment).
By then, it was becoming quiet, and we were both exhausted. The hair on the back of my neck sprang up as we both felt the desire to glance back over our left shoulders at the same instant. A glimpse of something had captured our attention. Something was creeping on its stomach about two hundred feet away, past the shadowy border of the light cast by the enormous stadium lightbulb.
Without saying anything, we both just gazed in terror. As we observed, the object moved in our direction, staying inside the boundary of the light shadow. It had no clothing on and had a humanoid appearance. It had a dark hue. With its arms down and its body near its waist, it was lying flat on its stomach.
The way it moved and the form of its legs, more than the fact that it had been approaching from behind, were what really alarmed me. It was crawling ahead, using just its feet to propel itself forward. The legs, too... A normal human's knees bend forward when viewed from the front. The joint was bent away and backwards, as opposed to forwards.
We both stopped breathing and only heard the sound of the rain falling as we gazed at each other for a few seconds. When the creature's head rose, all I could see were dark pools in the place of its eyes. About fifty feet away, my girlfriend and I leapt off the swings into the damp grass and dove into the vehicle. When I couldn't get the car to start, I panicked for a few seconds and was afraid to look up.
I didn't want to see "IT" coming for us; I didn't want to see those soulless, dark eyes and those legs bent the wrong way. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to start the car again once I popped the clutch. I continued to glance down at the driving wheel. We sped out into the night as the car's engine spun and caught.
From my girlfriend's house, I contacted my parents to let them know what had transpired. They gave me permission to stay there till the sun rose in a few hours with her and her mother. While we waited, we kept ourselves occupied by telling her mother our story, which greatly alarmed both her and my parents.
That Sunday morning, when the sun rose early, we took a drive to see if "it" was still there. bringing firearms this time. But as we looked around the field, nothing was there. Large, bare footprints that had been left in the mud all around the swings we had been sitting on earlier were discovered when we prodded around them. As I mentioned before, we both had our shoes on and were taking care not to have any dirt on them. Furthermore, we had not wandered aimlessly as these footprints had. All we discovered were those few footprints.
I occasionally get the courage to return to that area late at night, albeit never by myself. I explore the area while sitting beside the school field in my truck with the high lights on, but I never see "IT" again.
